Caring for destination
Main area of focus in Caring for the Destination:
Kichwa Tembo focus is on working with communities to create sustainable development through Income Generation, Education and Health Care
Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:
Income Generating - Kichwa Tembo works with community groups, in particular women to assist them in developing and creating small income generating projects. These small businesses allow the women a certain amount of independence and create sustainability in communities. One such project is the Bee Keeping Project with currently 40 active bee hives. Each beehive is harvested approximately twice a year, and the honey is sold to Kichwa Tembo and other local lodges to use for guests. The income is received by the women who manage the beehives.
Education - Kichwa Tembo supports schools in a variety of way. A number of classrooms and facilities have been donated to schools in the communities that we work with. School conservation lessons are a very important part of the involvement, as teach children about sustainable development through the environment
Health Care - Kichwa Tembo supports the need for healthcare in the district by providing a fully serviced clinic and the services of the health technician at the camp. The donation of Hippo Rollers to women in the community assists them greatly with the carrying of water
