The hotel's gardens were designed using indigenous plant species and blends naturally with the surrounding environment. The hotel was planned with the environment in mind and solar energy is used for hot water and efficient waste management systems are in place. All of the food served at the Plaza Beach Hotel comes from local organic farms ensuring farming jobs and income stay local.

The hotel belongs to the Ecotourism Society of Kenya (ESOK), a group that actively promotes responsible and sustainable tourism as well as preserving local heritage, and the Environmental Trust of Kenya (ETK) whose aim is to support endangered sea turtles along Kenya's coast. The Plaza Beach Hotel is also a member of the Kenya Association of Hotel Keepers and Caterers (KAHC) and the Mombasa and Coast Tourism Association (MCTA).
