ESS is focused on activities that contribute to local sustainable development and is actively involved in environmental, socio-economic and cultural initiatives throughout Mombasa and Kenya.
We are members of and participate in the activites Eco Tourism Kenya, a civil society organisation that was founded in 1996 to promote ecotourism and sustainable tourism practices in Kenya. And we annually contribute to and are members of East African Wildlife Society of Kenya whose mission is to promote the conservation and wise use of wildlife and the environment in East Africa.
More importantly and as part of their holiday, we encourage our guests to get involved and participate in projects that we support in and around Mombasa. Currently, ESS/Mombasa Hotels & Tours is working with and supporting the following 2 local community based organizations:
i). Jipe Moyo CBO, located at Kaliangombe Village, approx 28 km from Mombasa off Mombasa/Nairobi Highway whose objectives include fighting illiteracy by providing education to orphans and the disadvantaged children in the local community, adult education, creating awareness of the effects of HIV and AIDS as well as an on going feeding program for the orphans. ESS/Mombasa Hotels & Tours is currently funding the feeding program and has committed to building improved classrooms and a home for the orphans.
ii). We also are working with a very needy school in the outskirts of Mombasa City at Changamwe Jomvu Village by the name of Nuru CBR Orphanage School and we regularly send help in different forms to uplift the living and learning standard of the pupils.
More About Us
At its inception 10 years ago, Eastern & Southern Safaris was run by the husband and wife team of Njoroge Maina & Serah Njoroge and the ESS team have now grown to a full-time staff of 12. Our area of operation too has grown considerably, currently covering all national parks in Kenya and Tanzania as well as gorilla trekking in Uganda and Rwanda. We specialise in beach destinations including Mombasa, Malindi and Lamu.
Over the years, ESS has earned an enviable reputation of professionalism and paying particular attention to details, and is a member of Kenya Association of Tour Operators. KATO obligates members to observe the association's strict code of conduct designed to ensure that they trade honestly and professionally at all times, and also expects members to comply with the spirit of Kenya's tourist reputation of offering high quality service, comfort, safety and value to all clients.
The directors of ESS - Njoroge Maina & Serah Njoroge are Kenyan born and bred and are proud to be Kenyans. Nothing can match their enthusiasm to promote Kenya and especially the coastal region as the number one tourist destination in Africa. Serah is the more outgoing hence by default oversees the operations of the tour company, and has built a dynamic team of young and energetic tour consultants.
ESS' head office is in Nairobi and a Mombasa office is underway.
